Characteristics
The hazelnut comes from the area around the Mediterranean Sea. The hazelnut is a small round brown nut and contains many different vitamins, minerals and unsaturated fats. Like almonds, they contain a lot of vitamin E.
Origin
Hazelnuts are mainly imported from Turkey. They are available all year round. Hazelnuts can be kept for at least two years if you store them in a dry and well-ventilated place. And they keep best if you keep them in the cap.
Application
Hazelnuts are often eaten in paste form (hazelnut paste), with chocolate, in muesli bars or with ice cream. They are also very popular when used in a hazelnut tart.
Egg substitute
Hazelnuts have a characteristic taste. They are widely used in pastries. Ground hazelnuts ensure that pastries have a looser structure and are a good egg substitute. They can partially or even completely replace eggs in the batter. Do you want to use them finely chopped? Then do this before use. This way the taste remains optimal. Hazelnuts are gluten-free and therefore fit perfectly in a diet for people with gluten intolerance.
